Values
The Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley pursues its mission of
preserving and developing resources to enrich the quality of life
for people of the region and its neighbors through its work with
donors and nonprofits and as a leader in the community. In order
to be the “Heart of the Valley,” we are guided by the
values that follow:
INTEGRITY
The Foundation operates with a commitment to independent governance,
objectivity, and honest leadership, because together those qualities
preserve the public’s trust. Understanding the importance
of innovation, we seek diverse perspectives when identifying needs
and finding effective means to address them. All persons and ideas
are treated with respect, openness and fairness.
STEWARDSHIP
The Foundation’s funds belong to the community. As responsible
stewards, we seek to gather, invest and distribute funds with wisdom
and compassion. We manage our entrusted resources in a diligent
and prudent manner and our grantmaking is relevant, effective and
efficient. While we grow our permanent endowment for the future,
we confidently address today’s needs with today’s dollars.
TRANSPARENCY
The Foundation Board and Staff are open and honest with one another,
the community, donors and Foundation grantees. We encourage the
highest standards of conduct and ethics in all our work. With a
culture of respect permeating all activities, we make it easy for
all segments of our community – residents, donors, nonprofits,
government, and other funders – to feel connected with the
Foundation in order to make our own resources more effective. Clear,
coherent and simple communications advance the Foundation’s
mission by enhancing the impact of our image-building, grantmaking
and the effective use of our resources.
